Woodlands honoured with Children’s Award 3rd year in a row Delfin Woodlands has been recognised for its ongoing commitment to working with children for the third year in a row, receiving the 2008 Children’s Champion Business Award for Excellence, by the Communities for Children Initiative.

Delfin Woodlands has been recognised for its ongoing commitment to working with children for the third year in a row, receiving the 2008 Children’s Champion Business Award for Excellence, by the Communities for Children Initiative.

On Thursday 27 November 2008, Communities for Children held an annual awards night to celebrate and thank employees, volunteers, local businesses and partner organisations for their hard work and contribution to the Communities for Children initiative.

Communities for Children works with families who have children aged 0 to 5 years, and live in the Kingston, Loganlea and Waterford West areas, promoting healthy young families, early learning and child friendly communities.

Communities for Children Program Manager Geraldine Harris said Woodlands had made an outstanding contribution to working with children in 2008, making the community worthy winners of the coveted award.

“Delfin has always supported Communities for Children, and the Children’s Champion Award is our way to say thank you for all their hard work,” Ms Harris said.

“This award is great recognition for the hard work put in by Woodlands staff for the greater community.”

Delfin Woodlands Project Director Greg Tupicoff said the Delfin Woodlands and Communities for Children team have enjoyed a close working relationship for more than three years, the highlight of which was the successful co-produced children’s story book titled “A Day of Adventure at Woodlands”.

“The story is set in Woodlands and encourages young families to get involved in the active, healthy and exciting lifestyle on offer at Woodlands and in the surrounding communities,” Mr Tupicoff said.

“Delfin Woodlands has also welcomed planning and design advice from Communities for Children to ensure Woodlands’ new parks and playgrounds ticked all the right boxes when it comes to children’s needs.

“The Outlook Park at Woodlands, set to be complete early 2009, is the perfect example of this and is a wonderful reflection of a collaborative relationship between Woodlands and Communities for Children.”

The Outlook Park features educational signage including rhyme and riddle signage for the kids, information for mothers on exercising with their babies, plus exciting games like tic-tac-toe, twist ‘n’ turn and a giant snake game for the kids to play.

Woodlands character Fergus the Frog also makes special guest appearances at free story telling sessions for all the community to enjoy.

Upon completion in 2011, the 137-hectare Woodlands community will be home to more than 3,500 people with more than 30 hectares of open space including a 17-hectare environmental corridor and seven kilometres of cycle and pedestrian paths.

Woodlands is being developed by Delfin Lend Lease, Australia’s largest developer of masterplanned communities, with 25 projects nationally
