South East Queensland Builders Dominate National Awards
South East Queensland Builders have claimed two out of the four national awards in the Delfin Lend Lease 2004 Grand Masters Awards announced on Friday 15 October.
The annual Grand Masters Awards recognise excellence in building standards in the previous 12 months and are open to some 200 builders in more than 20 Delfin Lend Lease projects across Australia.
At the awards ceremony held simultaneously in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide, two South East Queensland builders were honoured as industry leaders.
Gold Coast -based Sanctuary 28 Projects won the national Premier Spec Home award for its Varsity Lakes entry “Tamarama”, while Civic Steel Homes won the national Premier Display Home award for its Springfield Lakes entry “The Eclipse”.
National judges of the 2004 Grand Masters Awards were Wayne Gersbach, Executive Director of Planning & Environment, Housing Industry Association and Carol Brett, Managing Editor of Better Homes and Gardens.
Mr Gersbach said Sanctuary 28 Homes’ “Tamarama” stood apart from the rest by focusing on liveability, not just looks.
“I was particularly impressed with the street appeal of this home which included the innovative use of a variety of materials and a skillion roof,” said Mr Gersbach.
“But I was equally impressed with the liveability of the home. The open plan design and indoor/outdoor connectivity maximised breezes and the large combined lounge, dining and kitchen provided for great entertaining,” he said.
He said Civic Steel’s “Eclipse” was ahead of the pack because of its Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) inclusions.
“The use of materials and skillion roof also provided a clear point of difference and the open plan design suited the sub tropical South East Queensland climate,” he said.
Delfin Lend Lease Chief Operating Officer David Keir said the Grand Masters Awards continues to drive building standards skyward in its projects by challenging builders to address current and future housing needs.
“Each year our judges are amazed by the flexibility of design, energy efficiency and lifestyle features evident in the Grand Masters Awards entries,” Mr Keir said.
“This year the winning builders successfully addressed the affordable housing and sustainability criteria introduced for the first time last year at the 2003 Grand Masters Awards.
“Value for money and sustainable design have now emerged as key factors of our builders’ new housing products. This means that South East Queenslanders now have the opportunity to buy an energy-efficient home at affordable project home prices.
“At Delfin Lend Lease we strive to create places where people want to live, learn, work and play and our builders are vital to the success of our communities. We are proud to recognise their achievements through the Grand Masters Awards.”
The Delfin Lend Lease 2004 Grand Masters Awards were judged on a regional basis, with the four most outstanding regional entries, the Premier Award winners, eligible for judging at a national level.
Homes from Springfield Lakes, Forest Lake and Varsity Lakes were eligible for entry into the South East Queensland regional category. Regional winners were also announced at the awards ceremony on Friday 15 October.
The South East Queensland judges were Jeff Sommerfeld, Property Editor of The Courier-Mail and Rick Wiley Executive Director – Queensland Housing Industry Association.
