Free Wireless Access the next 'Click' in the Varsity Lakes Broadband Community
The introduction of free wireless broadband access in the Varsity Lakes lake cafe + bar is not only a rare and attractive offer but an important step in the development of the project’s broadband community said Delfin Lend Lease.

From October the popular lake cafe + bar, located in the heart of Varsity Lakes at Delfin House overlooking Lake Orr, will offer free wireless broadband access to any patron who wishes to access their office or the internet via their laptop whilst enjoying a taste of lake cafe + bar’s fabulous menu.

The Varsity Central business and innovation precinct, Varsity Central, already enjoys high-speed broadband service through the Pacific Innovation Corridor. Businesses and residents will now have superior access in their local café allowing greater use for business and pleasure.

Varsity Lakes project director, Carl Bruhn, said the lake cafe + bar’s free broadband access is the latest in a string of innovative technology initiatives to be well received by Varsity Lakes community.

“Since its inception, Varsity Lakes has been committed to developing the community using leading technology, a commitment that is increasingly attracting businesses and residents,” said Mr Bruhn.

“Delfin Lend Lease has focused particularly on the rollout of communication technology because it makes life easier.

“Varsity Central is already a real hub for intelligent businesses and through the lake cafe + bar’s wireless broadband project, we will be giving our tenants and residents access to cutting edge technology and the opportunity to communicate with other community members.

“Simple but effective initiatives like the lake cafe + bar’s wireless broadband project go a long way to reinforce our reputation as a “smart” community, a reputation that is attracting more and more Queensland and international businesses and buyers to Varsity Lakes.”

The wireless access point was developed by Cisco Systems (the world’s leading supplier of internet technology) and installed and the Internet service is provided by Silver Communications. It is running on 802.11b standard for wireless networks. The connection to the internet runs at 2mbps in both upload and download and the wireless point will handle speeds of up to 11mbps in both directions.

Varsity Lakes adjoins Bond University and is bounded by the 80 hectare Lake Orr and the 18 hole Championship Golf Course Robina Woods. It is located just two minutes from Robina Town Centre, five minutes from North Burleigh Beach and ten minutes from Pacific Fair.

Varsity Lakes, the recent winner of the 2003 Gold Coast City Council Urban Design Award for Best Master-Planned Community, is being developed by Delfin Lend Lease, Australia’s largest developer of master-planned communities with more than 20 communities around the country.
