Townsville’s Riverside Gardens named among Australia’s best
Townsville’s Riverside Gardens has been named one of the nation’s best master-planned developments from a field including major capital cities at the coveted national UDIA awards.

Riverside Gardens, which was launched in 1998, has since become part of Townsville’s fast-growing southern corridor.

The 207 hectare Delfin Lend Lease development is already home to more than 4,000 residents and features a $100 million urban centre. It will comprise 2,100 homes including villas, apartments, terraces, courtyards and traditional family homes when completed in 2007.

Riverside Gardens Project Director Angelo Licciardello said the recognition proved what residents of Riverside Gardens already knew – that the Delfin Lend Lease development was one of the best of its kind.

“It’s not often a development in a regional city is recognised on a par with capital city projects for a national award,” Mr Licciardello said.

“We must be succeeding in creating special places – we recorded a 12 per cent increase in enquiries for people wanting to buy at Riverside Gardens from the previous year’s January.

“Reaching the finals recognizes our commitment to investing in commercial precincts, educational facilities, environmentally-friendly initiatives, transport options and a wide range of housing.

“Being able to draw on a team of planning, community and economic development experts has certainly helped to create a vibrant community.”

In 2004, the growth of the Riverside Gardens community spurred the appointment of a Community Liaison Officer.

“The new facilities at Riverside Gardens including the Riverside Landing and the new Riverview Tavern, and the wide variety of house and land packages have spurred record sales and the national recognition,” he said.

Located on the most scenic stretch of the Ross River, Riverside Gardens boasts 4.3 kilometres of prime river frontage, which includes playgrounds, gazebos and barbeques. Some 33 hectares of the project has been set aside for parklands and currently there are10 kilometres of picturesque hike and bike trails with another 5 kilometres of trails planned.

Riverside Gardens is one of Delfin Lend Lease’s 20 master-planned communities across five states.
