Mawson Lakes Sets National “Green” Benchmark
Delfin Lend Lease’s Mawson Lakes community in Adelaide has again been recognized as a national leader in environmental sustainability after last night winning the HIA GreenSmart Estate of the Year Award.

The HIA – Boral GreenSmart Awards are Australia’s longest running awards dedicated to recognising excellence in environmentally-aware home design, construction and renovation.

The accolade comes after Mawson Lakes was named the nation’s most sustainable development by the Property Council of Australia earlier this year.

Delfin Lend Lease Chief Executive Officer David Keir said the community was committed to achieving world-leading, environmentally-sustainable development outcomes.

“Our vision from day one has been to create a world-class, sustainable community in which people can live, learn, work and play,” he said.

“So far, Mawson Lakes has delivered a number of significant and world-leading economic, environmental and social dividends in terms of sustainable development practices to the community. This has particularly been the case in the areas of water resource management, energy efficiency and waste management.”

Mr Keir said the innovative Mawson Lakes recycled water system was a world-first in terms of size and scope.

“All homes, businesses and organisations at Mawson Lakes are connected to the recycled water system, which has resulted in household and commercial potable water savings of 50%, compared to the Adelaide average,” he said.

“All homes are the equivalent of a 5 star energy rated with commercial buildings at Mawson Lakes also complying with an energy rating checklist reaching a 4 star ‘AGBR’ rating.

“In addition, the community targets a variety of opportunities to minimise waste and maximise recycling. For example, solid waste at construction going to landfill has been reduced by in excess of 50%.”

Mawson Lakes is also a member of the Adelaide Solar City Consortium, which will promote renewable energy usage throughout the community and assist to further reduce energy consumption.

The award caps off a winning year for Mawson Lakes, which is also celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Earlier this year, Delfin Lend Lease won the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s Best Masterplanned Development Award for the Mawson Central mixed-used precinct within Mawson Lakes in Adelaide. In addition, Delfin Lend Lease won the UDIA National Affordable Housing Award for its Studio 51 Terrace home.

Mawson Lakes is a joint venture partnership being developed by Delfin Lend Lease and Land Management Corporation, and will eventually house approximately 10,000 people in 4,000 homes with 6,000 workers and 6,000 students.

Delfin Lend Lease is Australia’s leading developer of urban communities with 24 projects across the country.
