Forde homebuyers snap up almost a block a day
Homebuyers snapped up almost one residential block a day at Forde in the final two months of the financial year, proving demand is strong for quality residential land in Canberra despite the current economic climate.

The community recorded 53 residential land sales, including one medium density site which will eventually feature up to 21 townhouses, during May and June 2009.

Forde Project Director Gavin Kemp said the sales surge demonstrated homebuyer demand for quality land in Canberra was still ripe.

“Despite the recent downturn, homebuyers in Canberra continue to look for quality land, in a good location and close to community and recreation facilities,” he said.

“Fifty-three residential land sales for 73 dwellings in just two months is a phenomenal achievement in the current market. Forde is certainly proving to be one of Canberra’s most sought after new residential communities.”

“A significant proportion of the sales were actually to first home buyers, who have been encouraged by the Federal Government’s first home owners grant and attractive interest rates. Interestingly sales were also strong in the second and third home buyer market emphasising Forde’s broad market appeal.”

Mr Kemp said that buyers were attracted to Forde because of the range of land sizes available to meet different home designs, budgets and lifestyles.

“Homebuyers are looking for communities that offer something unique, which is why we have invested in delivering a sustainable community with 29 hectares of open space, parks and hike and bike trails. At the same time, the vibrant village centre will shortly commence construction at Forde. Upon completion, Forde’s bustling village heart will offer education, retail, community services and networks,” he said.

“Forde now has a population of more than 600 residents and homebuyers can see that the vision for the community is well and truly becoming a reality.”

Forde’s GreenSmart Display Village features 16 innovative homes from some of Canberra’s leading builders and is open 11am to 5pm on weekends and by appointment only Monday to Friday. For more information, please contact The Forde Sales and Information Centre on 1800 833 223.

Located between Mulligans Flat and Horse Park Drive the Forde community is expected to contain 1,100 homes and a population of 2,500 people by 2012. Forde is brought to you by the ACT Government’s Land Development Agency, Delfin Lend Lease and Canberra Investment Corporation.
