Woolworths to open its doors at Blakes Crossing
Blakes Crossing has confirmed that Woolworths will open a new supermarket in the heart of the new $750 million community in northern Adelaide.
Expected to begin construction later this year, the 3650sqm full line supermarket will be the anchor tenant in Blakes Crossing’s $80 million village centre. It is expected to be open for business in mid 2011.
The village centre will also feature 2,200 sqm of specialty stores. It is expected the precinct will include stores that cater to daily and weekly shopping needs such as a bakery and chemist. Two hundred and fifty car parks will be available to shoppers.
The announcement comes amid a flurry of major construction works taking place on the site, including new roads and parks, the community’s first homes and a 43-home display village.
Blakes Crossing Project Director Troy Jamieson said he was thrilled Woolworths would be one of the first retailers to open in the new community.
“Planning for the village centre is well underway. The heart of Blakes Crossing - the village centre - will feature ‘main street’-style shopping. The building design incorporates verandahs and canopies along the street to create unique and appealing pedestrian spaces. It will be the ideal place for old friends and new neighbours to meet and catch up,” he said.
“Located opposite Blakes Crossing’s central lake and reserve, the village centre will be just a short stroll from all villages within the community. It will also be a convenient shopping destination for the wider northern Adelaide community.”
Mr Jamieson said the village centre would also include sustainable design initiatives, including rainwater harvesting.
Adelaide’s newest masterplanned community, Blakes Crossing will be home to up to 4,000 residents in 1,500 homes upon completion. It is located 31km from the Adelaide CBD on the corner of Main North Road and Craigmore Road in Blakeview.
