Enrolment boom hits Laurimar Primary School
With the school year well into first term, Laurimar Primary School enrolments have almost tripled since it opened its doors just over a year ago.

There were 343 students enrolled for term one, up from 120 students at the same period last year.

The school will eventually cater for more than 700 students.

Full time teachers have also almost tripled from eight teachers in term one 2009 to 22 this year.

Laurimar project director Sean Pinan said the rise in student and teacher numbers could be attributed to the booming population in one of Melbourne’s fastest growing regions.

“We’ve seen a massive rise in families moving to Laurimar because of its proximity to first-class retail at the Laurimar Town Centre and the recreational facilities and professional services provided here,” he said.

“Ultimately this has led to a rise in demand for quality facilities so close to home, which is why we believe Laurimar Primary School has been so popular,” he said.

“The Laurimar Primary School had a very successful first year and I congratulate principal Darryl Furze and his staff for their hard work in transforming the school into one of the best new schools in the region.”

The grounds include a gymnasium, soccer pitch, resource area, and a central assembly area.

The Laurimar Town Centre provides state-of-the-art retail, education and medical services, as well as sport and recreation facilities including the two large sports fields and gymnasium, home of the new Laurimar Thunder Basketball Club.

Laurimar is a 324-hectare community which is already home to over 2000 residents in 500 homes and upon completion will be home to an estimated 9,000 residents in 2,300 homes.

Laurimar is being developed by Delfin Lend Lease, Australia’s largest developer of masterplanned communities, with 25 projects nationally.
